Advanced two-helix design

The AirSpiral heated breathing tube for Airvo 2 uses an advanced dual-spiral design to protect against condensation. We've all seen this happen before. When hot, moist gas comes into contact with anything even one degree colder (i.e. dew point), it cools and forms condensation. We often see this in conventional breathing tubes made of thin, dense plastic: their surface is easily cooled by the outside air, causing unpleasant "condensation".

7 tips to manage optimal humidity level

AirSpiral™ is the latest technology in moisture transport and condensation control. The following recommendations are offered for managing condensation in different environmental conditions.

Use the right equipment

All parts of the Airvo system work together to provide optimal humidity. For best performance, only manufacturer products should be used.

For example, the system works by communicating with a heated breathing tube.

The geometry and materials of the Optiflow interfaces are taken into account by the system.

Place the Airvo device below head level

If condensation occurs, water flows back into the water tank instead of going to the patient.

Do not cover the heated breathing tube

The tube should not be covered with a blanket, sheet or pillow. It must operate freely.

Check the environment

Ambient conditions may affect condensation.

Check for fans, air conditioners or drafts nearby.

If there is, it should be removed from the device.

If condensation occurs, drain the water back

Separate the interface from the tube.

Empty the patient end of the tube by lifting it up.

Reduce flow rate if necessary.

If condensation persists, lower the temperature.

Note: This process may reduce the humidity level, other methods should be tried first.
